A national-level athlete in the men's 10,000 meters, Wu won third place in the 10K race at the National Athletics Grand Prix. In 2015, Wu transitioned to marathon racing. After years of perseverance, in February 2024, he ran a personal best of 2:08:04 at the Osaka Marathon, securing a ticket to the Olympics. 

On August 10, at the Paris Olympics men's marathon, Wu, with unwavering determination, overcame the scorching weather and the "devil's course" with an elevation gain of over 400 meters, finishing with a time of 2:12:34. This achievement set a new record for the best performance by a Chinese male marathoner in Olympic history.
