The Discipline Behind Josh Kerr’s Performance

Amazfit is honored to introduce Josh Kerr, 2x Olympic Medalist and World Champion to the team. Josh is a Scottish middle-distance runner who competes for Great Britain and Northern Ireland in events including the 1500m, mile, and 3000m. He currently holds the British records in the 1500m and mile, running 3:27 and 3:45, respectively.

Yesterday, Josh kicked off his indoor season at the 118th Millrose Games in New York, running the 2-mile in a blazing fast 8 minutes, 7 seconds, placing 2nd overall. We're excited to see what Josh does in 2026 and help him every step of the way as he trains for 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.

Read below to see why Josh is one of the best runners in the world and why he chose to partner with Amazfit.

Training With Intention, Guided by Data
At the highest level of sport, progress isn’t always loud. It’s not just personal bests or podium finishes. More often, it’s measured quietly. In consistency. In recovery. In knowing when to push and when to wait. That’s the space Josh Kerr operates in.
"I pay close attention to how many consecutive weeks I’m hitting my mileage targets and how key sessions are progressing. We build training blocks around specific peaks, so I always know when focus needs to sharpen. Outside of training, nutrition, hydration, and sleep are my three main pillars - and that’s where I’ve made huge gains over the past four years," says Josh, who uses the Balance 2 to monitor his workouts, and wears the Helio Strap for additional heart rate accuracy and sleep data.

Progress Isn’t Always About Going Faster
2024 was arguably one of the best years for Josh; he began the year with a world-best in the 2-mile at The Millrose Games and set a British record in the mile at the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, OR. He later won silver at the Paris Olympic Games in the 1500m, setting a national record in the process and breaking Mo Farah's previous record by over a second.

2025 proved to be more challenging, marked by illness earlier on in the year and a calf injury at the Tokyo World Championships. For athletes at Josh's level, the ups and downs of training are simply part of the process. "I keep the end goal in mind, but I stay present. During setbacks, it’s easy to get discouraged by slow progress or bad days, but I don’t let that affect the long-term vision," he explains.

Rather than reacting emotionally to how a workout feels in the moment, Josh uses training metrics to understand the bigger picture. Sleep quality. Recovery trends. Daily readiness. Over time, these signals help him answer a critical question: Am I building toward something, or just working hard?

That’s where data comes in. This approach isn’t about perfection. It’s about clarity.

Training With Feedback, Not Guesswork
Elite runners don’t train blindly, and neither should everyday athletes. Josh’s philosophy is simple: the more clearly you understand your body, the better decisions you can make. Some days that means leaning into a hard session. Other days it means backing off, even when motivation is high. Knowing the difference is what keeps progress sustainable.
That mindset aligns naturally with how Josh trains using Amazfit devices, using his Balance 2 and Helio Strap. The goal isn’t just to collect data, but to turn it into feedback he can trust, day after day, block after block.

Consistency Is the Real Advantage
Results don’t come from one perfect workout. They come from showing up again tomorrow.

Josh’s career has reinforced that lesson repeatedly. From championship seasons to setbacks and comebacks, consistency has been the throughline. It’s built through routines that respect recovery as much as effort, and through tools that help remove uncertainty from training decisions. "

For Josh, a “good training day” isn’t defined by pace alone. It’s defined by whether the work fits into the larger plan. His advice? "If you show up and put in the same level of effort regardless of how you feel, you’re winning every day."

Looking Ahead
This season marks the start of a new chapter. With major competitions on the calendar and long-term goals already in focus, Josh continues to refine how he trains, recovers, and prepares to perform at his best.

"2026 opens up limitless possibilities without the pressure of major championship timing. It’s really motivated me to push outside my comfort zone and experiment, knowing that the late season doesn’t carry the same weight as in a championship year."

As Amazfit’s newest global athlete partner, he represents a shared belief: that progress comes from paying attention, trusting the process, and using data to train with purpose.
