Zepp Health and Coral Guardian's Restored Coral Reefs, One Year Later

On June 8th, 2023, in honor of World Oceans Day, Zepp Health partnered with Coral Guardian ahead of the release of the Amazfit T-Rex 2 Ocean Blue Special Edition, with $10 from each sale of the smartwatch going towards the non-profit organization's coral reef restoration project in the Hatamin Marine Protected Area in Indonesia.

In honor of World Oceans Day 2024, and to once again thank everyone who contributed to this important project, we are pleased to share an update on how the restored coral reefs have grown over the past year.

Coral Guardian shared that the corals are in great condition, with the biggest having grown to 10cm. In one or two years, the whole area shown in the photo will be covered in restored coral. As for Coral Guardian's larger project in the area, they have now restored more than 70,000 corals in Indonesia and around 75% of the degraded reef. The project is growing at such a good rate that Coral Guardian is planning to restore another area, near the town of Labuan Bajo by Sebolo Island. They've even opened an eco-tourism program that allows people from all over the world to visit the project, either for a week-long stay or for a short activity with a tourism partner on the ground.

The oceans and seas are the basis of all life on Earth, covering over 70% of the planet's surface. Corals play a central role in biodiversity and the health of the oceans, building entire ecosystems called coral reefs and providing habitats, and breeding and feeding grounds for 25% of the world's marine species.

Coral reefs are also invaluable for us humans, as they act as a barrier against waves and protect the coasts of 100 countries around the world from natural disasters, as well as having enormous potential for biomedical research.

Additionally, an estimated 500 million people depend on coral reefs to support their livelihoods, including at least 40 million fishermen.

We'd like to thank everyone who purchased an Amazfit T-Rex 2 Ocean Blue Special Edition - you contributed to the restoration of coral reefs in the Hatamin Marine Protected Area in Indonesia. Be sure to keep an eye on Zepp.com and Amazfit.com and our social media channels for more sustainability initiatives in the future. Find out about Coral Guardian here.

Together, let's take care of our oceans - not just on World Oceans Day, but all year round.
