John Dallas, a 40-year-old US citizen originally from Northern Ireland, has had a love for running since childhood, but it wasn't until he served in the army that he rediscovered his passion. He enjoys running for the energy it brings and the positive effects it has on the body. While he has not yet run the Boston Marathon, he is excited about the crowds and the overall experience of the race. John's training has been consistent, with a focus on slow and steady increases in volume. He is proud of achieving qualification for the Boston Marathon and completing a 24-hour endurance race with over 100 miles. In the future, he would like to participate in races in other countries and continue running and walking. For someone running their first marathon, John advises to have fun and build a strong foundation through consistent training. In his daily life, he prioritizes exercise, healthy eating, and quality sleep. At the Boston Marathon, John hopes to have fun and enjoy the experience. Despite his athletic achievements, John is content with a quiet life in nature and enjoying the simple things. He encourages others to practice and build their endurance, whether through walking or slow running.
Team Amazfit Athlete Story: Jeremy Vrentas
Jeremy Vrentas, 41, from Lee's Summit, Missouri, never ran much in his youth, but after turning 30, he started running. He joined a local running store's weekly group runs, which helped him become an avid runner. His why for running is to set an example for his kids, inspire others, and push himself to be better every day. This year, he is looking forward to running his first Boston Marathon and has been training with other races, such as the Mesa Marathon and the Little Rock Marathon. Jeremy is proud of qualifying for Boston at the Revel Big Bear November 2021 and hopes to qualify for the New York Marathon and complete a 50k in the future. His advice for someone running their first marathon is not to focus on times and to train to finish. In his daily life, he works on his core strength and cross-training to stay healthy as an athlete. Finally, he aims to finish the Boston Marathon and achieve a 3:09-3:19 finish time. Before running, Jeremy played drums in a band. He encourages others that with some simple discipline and goals, anyone can run a marathon.
Team Amazfit Athlete Story: Jim Arden
Jim Arden is a 65-year-old man from Pelham, New York who has been running for fitness since the 1980s. He decided to increase his mileage and ended up enjoying distance running after completing a 7-mile run in Bogota, Colombia. He has run 10 marathons, including the Boston Marathon twice. He describes the Boston Marathon as unique due to its course and support from the communities. The interviewee has been able to increase his training mileage before this year's Boston Marathon, aiming to improve his time. He is proud of being able to run marathons without injury and improving his times as he gets older. His future athletic goals include running marathons at a Boston-qualifying pace and qualifying for the Berlin Marathon. He advises new marathon runners to enjoy the experience, match their pace to their training, and avoid unrealistic expectations. He keeps healthy as an athlete by running most days, eating based on his training, and getting enough sleep. For Boston, he aims to run without leg cramps and improve on his 2021 time. Finally, he reveals that some people assume he ran track in high school or college, but distance running is just a late-adopted hobby.
